High efficiency silicon solar cell: background, device mechanism, and manufacturing technology

Abstract:

With a continuous scaling down on solar grade poly silicon price and manufacturing cost, single crystalline silicon solar cell has a bright future for both utility scale and roof top installation. High efficiency module drives down the land usage and installation related cost. A low thermal coefficient brings additional advantage on energy harvest and makes it particularly suitable for North America market. Crystalline silicon solar module has excellent track record at long term reliability and distinguishes itself from other technologies. In this talk, we will explain the cell structures leading to 22% cell efficiency and 19% module efficiency. The manufacturing process flow will be covered as well.

 

Bio: 

 

Dr Zhigang Xie received his PhD degree from Stanford University, with a major in Applied Physics. Post-graduation, he has worked for Applied Materials and SunPower Corporation. Currently he is Director of Solar Cell R&D, at Silevo Solar, inc. Silevo Solar is a start-up company with headquarter at Fremont and manufacturing center and HangZhou, Zhejiang Province.  The company dedicates itself to the area of low cost manufacturing for high efficiency silicon solar.
