Introduction to EMC

Abstract:

EMC stands for electromagnetic conformance which is required in government directives on certain electric and electronic products. Photonic products that contain ICs or control circuits also must be in compliance with EMC standards before allowed for sale. The purpose of EMC Directives is to have your products function properly when they are in proximity to other electronic and electrical products by ensuring first your products do not emit electromagnetic interference that adversely affect others, and secondly your products immune from incoming electromagnetic disturbances. This seminar will provide a brief introduction to EMC, several related standards, and test methods.

Biography:

Gordon Li received his Ph.D. degree in applied physics from University of Tokyo. He worked for IBM Tokyo Lab as a research fellow, then in 1991 to 95 in Bell Northern Research of Canada as a Sr. Engineer. Afterwards he assumed various technical positions in SDL, ETEK (JDSU) in Silicon Valley, and later in Liniment OIC near Los Angeles with intensive travel to Taiwan for 6 years. He is currently with Oplink Communication at Fremont California.
