External Cavity Lasers for Telecom and CATV

Abstract: 

Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) based external cavity have been commercialized during the past couple of years to provide direct-modulated laser sources with exceptional performance benefiting both telecom and CATV applications. The presentation will give a brief overview of the technology, the latest overview of products, and their applications in telecom, CATV, and sensing applications. 

Speaker Bio:

Prior to his current role as K2’s VP of Engineering, Sabeur was its CTO since mid 2002. Prior to joining K2, Sabeur co-founded LuxN where he served as its VP of Operations and led the hardware engineering development during the early stage of the company. LuxN, (was acquired by Sorrento Networks, in turn acquired by Zhone Technologies) was a provider of optical communication equipment for the Metro and Access markets. Before LuxN, Sabeur was with SDL, Inc. (later acquired by JDS Uniphase) where he contributed to the development of new optoelectronic packaging solutions for laser diodes used in telecom and industrial applications. Sabeur has 5 issued and pending patents and holds a B.S. from Georgia Tech, an M.S. and a Ph.D. from the USC, all in electrical engineering.
