Substrate-Independent Optoelectronic Devices

Abstract:

Compound semiconductor devices dont need to be constrained to the substrate that their epitaxial layers were grown on. The epitaxial layer can be transferred to another substrate that is more suitable for processing, device performance, or eventual integration. This talk gives an overview of methods for achieving this and shows how a vertical cavity surface emitting laser was built on a substrate other than the original host. This procedure does not compromise the performance of the device and in fact opens the door to more advanced and higher performance device designs by providing processing access to both sides of the epitaxial layers.

Biography:

Dr. Majid Riaziat has over 25 years of management experience in technology development and acquisition, plus an in-depth knowledge of optoelectronics. He is the president and cofounder of OEpic Semiconductors, Inc., an optoelectronic component manufacturer in Sunnyvale, California.
