Analog Front End Circuits of HDTV

Abstract:

Analog Front End circuits (AFE) is a key component in HDTVs and is one of the bottlenecks for HDTV video quality. AFE converts the incoming video signal into digital codes for further video processing. Also, it takes care of the gain and offset corrections and detects the syncronizing signals to guarantee the normal functions of HDTV systems. In this talk, we will introduce the AFE circuitry architectures and review the performance specifications in various HDTV industrial standards.

Biography:

Dr. James Pan received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from National Taiwan University and the
Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University.

From 1991 to 1995, he was with Intel, Corp, where he developed low power digital circuits. From 1996 to
2000, he was with Delta Integration, Inc., where he developed high performance sigma-delta analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters for audio and modem applications. From 2001 to 2004, he was the Director of Design Engineering in Micrel, Inc. where has led the project to develop high-speed Ethernet transceivers. Dr. Pan is now the Director of Mixed Signal Design in Simple Silicon, Inc. where he is leading the projects to develop HDTV analog front
end circuits.
