History and market trend for packet optical networks

Abstract:

The transport networks and the packet layer networks have been separated from the very beginning. IP over WDM started to draw attention from market at the early phase of WDM networks in the late 90s. IP over WDM reached out to the market in the middle of the last decade with 40G DPSK solutions. The third wave packet optical solution is roaring to the market with 100G coherent technology. Well discuss the market trend and why this time it should fly.

Biography:

Dr. Samuel Liu is the Sr. Product Line Manager at Juniper Networks who is responsible for packet optical product management. Before Juniper, he worked on 100G and 40G optical transmission systems as a director of product line management at Stratalight Communications. Before that, he held different product line management, product marketing, product planning and system architect positions at Huawei  USA, Tellabs and several packet optical start-up companies. Dr. Liu received his Ph.D. and M.S. in electrical engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology in 1998, and 1994 respectively. He received his B.S. in optoelectronics eng at ZheJiang University in 1985. Additionally, he is the organizer for OFC Market Watch panels. He has also published tens of technical papers, and holds multiple awarded and pending US patents.
