100G to Tbps Communications C Challenges for Optical Components

Abstract

Small form factor Electro-Optic (EO) modulator with low drive voltage and wide bandwidth is one of the key components for next generation telecommunication systems to be built with reduced cost, size and power consumption. EO polymer materials have advantages such as high EO coefficient, closely matched optical and millimeter wave indices and relative low loss tangents, promising polymer EO modulators with high speed, low drive voltage and small form factor sizes to meet the next generation telecom system requirements. Polymer EO modulators TFPS (Thin Film Polymer on Silicon) EO modulators are fabricated by spin-coating EO polymer thin films on silicon substrate, offering low cost of manufacturing. The speech will provide the latest progress on this development, explain how to face the verious challenges for optical components.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Raluca Dinu has more than 12 years of experience in telecommunication industry. In 2008, Dr. Dinu joined GigOptix as the Vice President of Product Development after having served as the Vice President of the Electro-Optic Business Unit since 2007 for Lumera Corporation. From 2001 to 2007, Dr. Dinu served Lumera in various capacities, as technology and business leader in electro-optic polymer modulators and millimeter wave communication systems, having 15+ patents and successfully bringing polymer-based business TFPS technology to production. Dr. Dinu obtained her BSc in Optics, and PhD in Physics, at the University of Bucharest, Romania in 2000 in ferroelectric thin films for random access memories. Dr. Dinu graduated the Executive MBA AeA/Stanford Institute in 2007.
