Nano Crystal Hybrid Emissive Display


            

            

Abstract:


Flat panel display has gain tremendous momentum in recent years. The two dominant players are LCD and Plasma technologies. LCD technology covers a broader range in product applications where Plasma appears only in larger format screens. Both technologies have their share of issues. A new breed of emissive display technologies are on the horizon. They are OLED and Nano-crystal hybrid that are high in viewing quality and low in cost. They are the potential strong contenders for the flat panel display market. In this presentation, the Nano-crystal hybrid technology will be discussed. This hybrid technology marriages organic and inorganic materials at the nanometers scale that combines the diversity of organic materials with the high performance electronic and optical properties of the inorganic nano-crystal materials. Quantum confinement allows nano-crystals to tune colors throughout the visible via simple size control. Nano-crystal has very high quantum efficiency and offers the highest color purity that is available by materials. It is robust and can leverage the low cost printing technologies for device fabrication.

Biography:


C C Yang, currently, is at Hewlett Packard Laboratories, Palo Alto where he has worked on many technical areas. They include e-beam lithography, high performance electronic packaging, magneto-optic storage, atomic resolution storage and currently nano-crystal materials. Prior to joining HP, C. C. worked at Xerox Research Centers. While at Xerox he engaged research in a variety of novel imaging and marking technologies, such as photo-active pigment electrophotography, ionography, thermal printing and inkjet technology. C. C. hold a Ph.D. and M.S. degree in Physics of Condensed Matters from Harvard University, and a BS in EE from UCLA.
