SMT and Application in Photonics Industry

Abstract:

SMT stands for surface mounting technology which is nowadays widely used for printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) by various devices, components, and equipment manufactures.  Photonics industry is one of the beneficiaries of the technology over past decades.  In this seminar, I will present an SMT overview with some detailed explanations of SMT in general, followed by several application examples of SMT in todays photonics Industry. I will also provide a perspective concerning the quality and reliability control in the SMT applications, and finally, describer on the newer challenges that are imposed from RoHS directives.

Biography:

Gordon Li received his Ph.D. degree in applied physics from The University of Tokyo. He worked for IBM Tokyo Lab as a research fellow, then from 1991 to 95 in Bell Northern Research of Canada as Sr. Engineer. Afterwards he assumed various technical positions in SDL, ETEK (JDSU) in Silicon Valley, and later for 6 years in Liniment OIC near Los Angeles with intensive travel to Taiwan. He is currently with Oplink Communications at Fremont California.
